OK so I admit it, since about the age of 8 years old I’ve been dreaming about how it feels to be Open Champion. I think I lifted the Claret Jug at least 15 times over the years! I’ve won it in a play-off, on another occasion I holed a 25 foot putt on the last and I vividly remember chipping in from a bunker to become the Champion Golfer!!
Of course it was all in my childhood over active imagination, but it was still a great dream! If we are honest since we started playing this great game I think most amateur golfers have privately imagined how it feels to be Open Champion, but from the first Championship held back in 1860 only a few have risen above the dreamers and made it a reality.
But as we enter The Open week at St Andrews the home of golf, our thoughts will again turn to who on Sunday will be lifting that Claret Jug and how it will feel to be Open Champion for the rest of their lives?!
